課程簡介、目標

This course is an introduction to industrial organization. The main purpose of this course is to understand firm behavior. The course starts with the extreme case of monopoly. We are particularly interested in pricing strategies and welfare implications. We also ask, how the state can regulate monopolies to increase welfare. Then we consider markets with a small number of firms. Each firm has to take the behavior of its rivals into account in order to derive its optimal business strategy. We start with the two basic models of oligopoly developed by Cournot and
Bertrand. We will address the role of dynamic collusion, product differentiation, capacity constraints, information asymmetries, commitment etc.

本課程是對產業組織的介紹，主要目的是理解組織的行動。

課程由壟斷的極端案例開始，尤其針對定價策略及福利影響有深入探討。我們也同時尋找以下問題的答案：國家是如何監管壟斷企業以增加福利。接著，我們會進一步討論少量組織的市場。

每個組織都需要考慮其競爭對手的行為，以得出最佳的商業策略。我們從Cournot 與 Bertrand 提出的寡頭壟斷的兩個基本模型開始，將著手處理動態共謀、商品差異化、訊息不對稱、承諾等問題。
